Can you hear those applause?  They are for YOU!

(Can you see the conviction in her eyes and voice as she sings “I am Strong …”?)

CRANK UP THE VOLUME AND BELT IT OUT BABY!!  I’m singing it with you.

The United Nations declared 1975 ”International Year of the Women”.  They chose this as the theme song.  And it’s lived on for today’s younger generations of women too, who know you really can have everything you’ve ever wanted, because you now have the power to get it.

Imagine the ‘walls and blocks’ Helen Reddy and many other leading business women would have faced back 30+ years ago.  We are alive at an amazing time for women – it’s up to each one of us to embrace our authentic power and beauty and share our message, through the love and energy women naturally possess and make, live and leave our legacy.  And it’s equally important to support, encourage and empower one another.  Our way, I believe, really can heal the world.

Notice the conviction in this woman’s eyes and voice (you’ll want that too) when she/you declares  …. “I am Strong, I am Invincible, I am Woman”

Here are those powerful, meaningful words (print them out, carry them with you, stick them on the wall, remind yourself YOU ARE INVINCIBLE).

I AM WOMAN (Helen Reddy and Ray Burton)

I am woman, hear me roar In numbers too big to ignore
And I know too much to go back an’ pretend
‘Cause I’ve heard it all before And I’ve been down there on the floor
No one’s ever gonna keep me down again

Oh yes, I am wise But it’s wisdom born of pain
Yes, I’ve paid the price But look how much I gained
If I have to I can do anything
I am strong (strong) I am invincible (invincible)
I am woman

You can bend but never break me ‘Cause it only serves to make me
More determined to achieve my final goal And I come back even stronger
Not a novice any longer ‘Cause you’ve deepened the conviction in my soul

Oh, yes, I am wise But it’s wisdom born of pain
Yes, I’ve paid the price But look how much I gained
If I have to I can face anything
I am strong (strong) I am invincible (invincible)
I am woman

I am woman watch me grow See me standing toe to toe
As I spread my lovin’ arms across the land
But I’m still an embryo With a long, long way to go
Until I make my brother understand

Oh, yes, I am wise But it’s wisdom born of pain
Yes, I’ve paid the price But look how much I gained
If I have to I can face anything
I am strong (strong) I am invincible (invincible)
I am woman

Oh, I am woman I am invincible I am strong

I am woman I am invincible I am strong I am woman

In 2006 Vanessa Amorosi (Australia’s No 1 Pop Rock Chic) honored “I am Woman” with her rendition as Helen Reddy accepted her induction into Australia’s (ARIA) Hall of Fame – notice Helen Reddy in the audience, bopping along on those high notes.:

HAVE YOU SEEN SEX AND THE CITY 2 YET?  This scene of the girls in a Karaoke Bar in Abu Dhabi singing “I am Woman“ is hysterical … hope you get a great laugh from it too.

  3. WOO HOO Jen, I turned up the volume and Cohen (3) and I danced and sang around my office that was just what I needed to finish off my busy week.

Thanks Jen you are a legend xx

    • Hey Melinda, that’s a beautiful idea for a work-at-home mum … dance a song of empowerment with your kids.

    A fabulous classic! Thanks!

    • Yes it is! How about the updated version by Vanessa Amorosi too? When she hits those high notes, it sends a shiver, love it.

I thought her back up singers were awesome too. And did you notice Helen Reddy in the audience, she looked really proud.

Love having you on the journey.

      Jen xo

  5. Wow, talk about a blast from the past!

Love the message though … thanks for sharing

    • Deb, it’s the message that’s truly timeless isn’t it.

And that the UN used it as their theme song for International Year of Women makes it so much more powerful too I think.

Great to have a blog to share this kind of experience on – love having you along.

      Jen xo

  6. One of the classics, makes you want to sing from the roof tops, but I will settle for belting it out in the shower. (Poor neighbours again)

  7. Thanks so much for sharing Jen. I LOVE this song.

    Definitely our theme song girl!

I haven’t seen the clip for years and you can see the joy in her face as much as in her voice. A true celebration of our strength and love.

Ok girls – Power through the day!

  8. Excellent! Thanks soooo much for sharing and I am going to do the same …

I LOVE this song and have found myself singing it over the years … I even liked it as a teenager when it first came out!

As women, we need each other. We thrive when we have the support, love, guidance and friendship of other women. Thanks for providing this connection for us Jennie! You can also get connected with other powerful women at http://powerfulyou.com

  13. Glenys Rae says:

I Am Woman has always been a favourite and listening and singing it gave me goosebumps! Love Helen Reddy’s look and body language when she sings the bit “…..yes I’ve paid the price, but look how much I’ve gained…” because she dismisses the pain and price with a shrug of her shoulders and her facial expression says “I can handle it.. because look how much I’ve gained!”. We can all relate! We ARE all awesome…. Thanks Jen for your usual powerful inspiration!
    Lots of Love

  14. Kathleen says:

Transcends time and circumstances!! It reminds me we still can make this the world the place it can be. . . All of us have the key contribution to make that will transform.

We are Women hear Us roar, in numbers too big….

    And, always a great singalong!

  15. Love this song… ageless, timeless, written for all women no matter their age, circumstances or where they are geographically located on this big planet, an anthem for us girls to sing loud, proud and clear.. We are truly a masterpiece, a one off creation, designed in such intricate and delicate detail, each one of us original and perfect in every way… beautiful within and without..

With my business I have been on a journey that has led me to meet some of the most outstanding women in our community, pillars of our society, women from all backgrounds and ethnicity. Through this journey the one thing I have discovered is that all women are the same, not necessarily on the outside, but on the inside.
I’ve learned that each woman possesses inner courage, tenacity, character, discipline, willingness to learn from others, wisdom, encouragement and grace that enable her to stand out and be significant. Her attitude to lifeholds the key that makes her truly a woman of significance to those that she encounters along this marvellous and miraculous journey called life.
Thanks Jennie for being a woman of significance and whilst you are busy with business you still make time to be a girl and take us on a beautiful journey…love Josie Kxxxxxxxxxxxx

  16. Clancy Beck says:

Its 30 degrees here today but I had goosebumps…….. thanks for giving me a lift Jennie.

    Love and sunshine
    xx

  17. Jenny Davis says:

I remember 1975 as the “International Year of Women” and Helen Reddys song, I am Woman. It was the year I started in the airlines and it was at the height of unionism, gaining respect in the workplace as a woman. We won a lot of rights that year for women. What we fought for back then still plays a major role in the workplace for women today. Thanks for bringing back the memories Jen. Love it.

    • Jen, WOW, thanks for sharing that – what a really powerful insight you have shared with me and all of us.

You are so humble, yet such a powerful leader for women entrepreneurs.

Love you – it’s truly a privilege and honor to be your coach and mentor.

      Jen xo

  18. Beautiful song with such powerful lyrics. This is the first song I put on my new ipod a couple of years ago. This is the song I listen to when I need to clear my head. I would go for brisk walks with this song blaring in my ears over and over again and I usually come back all rejuvenated.

    Thanks for sharing this Jen.

    You’re one of a kind!

  19. Fantastic Jennie. I used to play this song at the end of every day. It always filled my soul with all of me. Thanks for sharing it.

  20. Kim Posavec says:
