I’m reading a great little book this morning – an inspiring ’story’ and life lesson called “The Last Lecture” by Randy Pausch. I recommend you grab a copy (thanks Rae for this gift)

In the book, amongst a whole lot of funny stories and lessons for life, Randy says “It’s important to have SPECIFIC dreams”.

This story and his lessons are so valuable to recalibrate your thinking and move yourself forward to freedom that I dug up this video of the “Last Lecture” summary Randy did on Oprah Winfrey before he died to share with you. If I could pass the book via the computer I’d do that for you too, it’s SO good.

One of the book chapters “Getting to Zero G” talks about Randy’s childhood dream of becoming an astronaut but because he wore glasses, NASA would not accept him.  But when he really broke it down, it’s wasn’t being an Astronaut that mattered most, it was the experience of floating in zero gravity. 

He discovered that NASA ran a program where students could experience zero gravity in a special flight plane and so Randy set about making it happen, only to discover more technicalities preventing him from experiencing the zero gravity flight.

He found a way around those obstacles too by giving NASA something they wanted, that they would find valuable — so in turn he could get what he wanted from them – the experience of a Zero Gravity flight.

Randy’s insight and lesson from this story in his book:  “Have something to bring to the table, because that will make you more welcome.”

This is an excellent point and important consideration for anyone wanting to create a successful business using successful alliances.  Think about the Law of Reciprocity – what would the other party find valuable enough to receive from you in exchange for the valuable ‘thing’ they can give to you?

“The Last Lecture” by Randy Pausch is a short, easy read full of life transformational lessons, written through the eyes of a boy trapped inside a dying man’s body who more than anything, wants to leave a legacy for his family.

Isn’t that what we all want to do – live a legacy and leave one?

I wish I would have met this man, to thank him – I feel through his book, I really already know him and he’s certainly impacted my life.  Please do yourself a favor and grab a copy of the book.  I’m sure it’s on Amazon.

I want to share a few of my experiences with his works and how they’ve influenced my life.  I believe it was my mind-set shifts and personal growth that enabled and allowed me to create opportunity and do “Business in My Bathrobe .. from Home and Hotels Around the World” (the name of this blog).

The fact that I used the internet and web businesses as my money-making medium is inconsequential, although it does resonate with me very well as it indeed fits with his teachings, but again, unless I changed the way I thought about life, myself, money, opportunity, peace, self-fulfillment and true happiness, the money (if I still managed to make it without a mind-set shift) would have been meaningless and I would have still been inherently miserable, even though I thought I was a positive, happy person … the truth was only revealed by working through the lessons taught by Napoleon Hill.

Firstly, I’d like to share this video, from Napoleon Hill that captures the very essence of transforming your life (by unlocking your spiritual forces) - to be where you want to be, do what you want to do and have what you want to have.  After this video, I have made notes about the Blessing and 3 steps he says you must take, so you will start benefiting immediately from the power of his work … Enjoy!

In this video, Napoleon Hill says we are given two sealed envelopes at birth.  We decide which one we want to open.

One envelope is labelled “THE RICHES  YOU MAY ENJOY IF YOU TAKE POSSESSION OF YOUR OWN MIND AND DIRECT IT TO ENDS OF YOUR OWN CHOICE   “. It contains these Blessings:

1)  Sound Health

2) Peace of Mind

3) A Labour of Love of Your Own Choice

4)  Freedom from Fear and Worry

5)  A Positive Mental Attitude

6)  Material Riches of Your Own Choice and Quantity.

The 3 Action Steps he tells you to take right now are:

1.  On a loose page, write down a clear description of your major desire in life.  The one circumstance or position or thing which you will accept as your idea of success.  (And remember before you begin writing, that your only limitations are those that you set up in your own mind or that you allow others to set up for you.)

2.  Write down a clear statement of precisely what you intend to give in return for that you desire in life … and then start in right where you stand now to begin giving.

3.  Memorize both of your statements – what you desire and what you intend to give in return for it and repeat them at least a dozen times daily and always end your statements with this expression of gratitude for the blessings with which you were gifted at birth.

and the Expression of Gratitude is:

“I ask not for divine providence, for more riches, but more wisdom with which to accept and use wisely the riches I received at birth in the form of the power to control and direct my mind to whatever ends I desire.”
